Here at the Lido school of chess all tutors, students and parents must sign the code of conduct when they join.

Introduction

This code of conduct outlines the expected behaviour, responsibilities, and boundaries for all tutors, students, and parents/guardians involved in the Lido School of Chess. By adhering to this code, we create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone.

1. Respect and Dignity

  • Treat all individuals with respect, dignity, and kindness, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or background.
  • Avoid discriminatory or offensive language, behaviour, or actions.
  • Always respect the personal space and boundaries of others.

2. Safeguarding and Welfare

  • Members are asked not to be alone with children at any time.
  • Members are asked not to take photos of other members without express permission.
  • Children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Members should prioritise the welfare and safety of all children, young people, and vulnerable adults involved in activities.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns or disclosures promptly and follow the safeguarding procedures.
  • Do not engage in any behaviour that could harm or endanger the well-being of others.

3. Professionalism

  • Always conduct yourself in a professional manner, maintaining appropriate boundaries with other members and visitors.
  • Refrain from engaging in any form of harassment, bullying, or inappropriate conduct.
  • Use appropriate language and communication methods when interacting with others.

4. Fair Play and Sportsmanship

  • Embrace the principles of fair play, honesty, and integrity in all chess-related activities.
  • Respect the rules and regulations of the game and adhere to the decisions of officials and referees.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship, whether winning or losing, and encourage others to do the same.

5. Responsibility and Accountability

  • Take responsibility for your actions and their consequences.
  • Follow through on commitments and obligations related to your role within the school.
  • Accept feedback and constructive criticism positively, using it as an opportunity for personal growth and improvement.

6. Confidentiality

  • Respect the confidentiality of sensitive information shared within the school, including safeguarding concerns and personal details of members.
  • Do not share confidential information with unauthorised individuals or on public platforms without consent.

7. Compliance with Policies and Procedures

  • Familiarize yourself with and adhere to all school policies and procedures.
  • Seek clarification or guidance from school officials if you are unsure about any aspect of school policies or procedures.

8. Positive Role Modelling

  • Serve as a positive role model for members, demonstrating good behaviour, respect, and sportsmanship.
  • Uphold the values and ethos of the Lido School of Chess in your actions and interactions with others.
